I am posting this message for a friend in Belgium who is looking for the UNIT who saved his life on Christmas Eve 1944. Here is the message he sent. This is a bottle in the ocean as the records of this unit seem to have been burned in the fire in St Louis. "Hello, I’m looking for my saviors I only have the name of one: Joseph H. Corbeau. S/Sergeant Service Number 31217879. He was born on May 29, 1913 Cumberland His enrollment record is dated: December 17, 1942. Cumberland. He died on June 29, 1994 to Bryan, Williams, Ohio. Soc. Sec. Number 004-05-7299 Maine « On December 24, 1944, on Xmas Eve, my town, Malmedy, now in Belgium but in this time annexed by the nazi’s, was bombed. The house where I was sheltered, was severely damaged, and I was, along with others, buried in the ruins. About 12 GI’s whom my mother had happily welcomed in our home for a short time ( between mid-december 1944 and mid-january 1945 ) during this painful winter ( minus 25°/30° - 1 to 3 feet snow, without heating ), did all that was possible to extract from the debris - I was wounded. They first used a bulldozer for this job and then a Jeep to escort us (my mother, my young brother and I ) to the Eupen hospital ( about 20 miles ) through the German lines. There, on the same day, I was carefully cared for by a US medical unit. They saved my life !!!!" Please help me to find his UNIT. Thank you Philippe F KRINGS, Malmedy Please help me help him locate this Unit. All we know if that Joseph CORBEAU was a member of this unit.
