I have been working with a woman to find her birth father who does not know of her existence. The birth father is named Rudy or Rodolfo Padilla, was allegedly from San Antonio, Texas and during 1964/64 he was stationed in the Bartsow/Yermo/Dagget area of CA. He was to have been a Marine. His birth date has been given to us as around the early to mid 1930's which would make him a too old to be a new recruit therefore he probably was a career soldier. We have checked with the National Personnel Records Center to see if we could find any records for a R. Padilla and were told that their records center had a fire and that most of the records of this era were destroyed. The birth mother has been found but is not helpful. At the time she was married to an Army soldier and she worked in a cafe/bar frequented by soldiers and railroad workers. We know she had a mailbox in Yermo, CA and so I would asssume she probably lived there and worked there or worked in Barstow. Nearby are a couple of Marine Logistics bases. Can you suggest any resources that we could check to see if there was a Rudy Padilla, Marine, in Barstow circa 1963 and hopefully determine who he was and where he was from to attempt to locate him today?
