Posted by Tim Hixon on 12/01/2004 5:11pm I was stationed on Guam starting in 1992. I was sent TAD to AIMD on NAS Agana. I knew AT2 Bob Guimond, but I am not aware of his previous assignments before AIMD. So I'm not sure if I am referring to the same Bob Guimond. However, what caught my eye is the fact that you said he was from Lawrence, Mass. I have information on the Bob Guimond that I knew. First of all, he was one of my best friends; which is kind of funny because we were both from two totally different areas of the country. I'm from Arkansas, where I live now. The only time I ever heard anyone talk with an accent like his was on TV! (lol) He also managed to help me deal with life on Guam, because I just hated being there in the beginning. Some months later he introduced me to scuba diving. Well, that got me hooked! I got scuba certified in 1993. He and I hung out quite a bit. I got to know his wife, Michelle. There was even a time when I actually lived with them! Things kind of went sour between him and his wife, and they filed for divorce. I hate to be the one to break the bad news...Bob died in a scuba accident in March of 1994, along with two others, shortly after Michelle had returned home to Memphis, TN. It was the first time I had ever experienced a death of someone close to me. I thought it would be the right thing for me to escort his body back home. His funeral took place in Methuen, Mass, which is very near Lawrence. To be honest, I have not kept up with his family at all. After the funeral, I went home on leave, and then returned to Guam. Time just moved on, I transferred to Washington state and got out of the Navy in 1996. So, it's been 10 years since all this happened. I'm hoping that one day I'll catch up with some of his family. But I sincerely hope that you are looking for a different Bob Guimond. God Bless |
