Posted by Charles Pinkham on 05/22/2004 9:28pm Dear Sir, my father was a shipmate, Richard (Dick) Pinkham. He was a quartermaster, I think he joined the crew in 1944 (?) & was aboard in the North Atlantic through Buckner Bay when you went aground & lost several of the crew, including one of his best friends. He told me about the "booze" distilled while stranded on the island paradise at war's end. He's in good health, living near Washington DC, we're celebrating his 80th birthday this July. He has 6 children and 8 grandchildren. He married Betty Joan Fortier after the war and worked at the US Patent and Trademark Office for over 30 years before he retired. He still has his uniform & I have the Japanese bayonet and belt he picked up in Japan. He has an e-mail address, "djpinkham@juno.com", but doesn't check it regularly. Give a holler, I'm sure he'd enjoy hearing from you. Sincerely, Charles Pinkham |
