Posted by Jeanna Key on 05/30/2010 1:09pm I recently flew home from LA to Atlanta and sat next to a gentleman who was obviously military. Which branch, I'm not certain, though I wish a thousand times I would have asked. All I know is his last is Eads. I didn't ask if he was returning from war or was simply flying home himself for a visit. He was quiet but friendly and we only exchanged a few words during the 3 and half hour flight. At one point, he simply offered to share his lunch with me as Delta no longer accepts cash and that was all I had! It may seem to others to be the smallest of gestures but to me it spoke volumes. I didn't get his first name and I'm not even sure what his rank is but I hope that wherever he is, he knows that someone out there appreciates his kindess! |

Posted by Larry Coppala on 05/30/2010 2:50pm Hi Jeanna, here is another "kindness" I want to tell you about. Plus it deserves telling just like your experience. When I arrived back in the USA from Viet Nam in Oct 1967, I was waiting for my flight from Sea-Tac (Seattle-Tacoma) to Miami FL. My ticket took all the money I had, there was a dime leftover. My flight was the next morning. I slept on the floor that night and by the next morning I was hungry as a bear. I lost 56 lbs in Viet Nam by the way. I was a S/Sgt and started a conversation with another S/Sgt who was also on the way home and waiting for a flight. He said lets get some coffee, but I said no thanks 'cause a dime wouldn't touch the airport prices. He said c'mon I'm buying. Then he asks if I want breakfast and paid for that too. His flight left before mine and he handed me a ten dollar bill. (worth a lot in 1967) I asked for his address to pay him back on payday. He said "No Way"! Just Pass It On. So, since 1967 I have been passing it on, it's the way of the military. We take care of our own, and others too. |
