I am a sailor's wife. We are Robert and Sharon Frank. He spent a lot of time on the Valley Forge, 67-68. Made EM3 Dec 67. Went to Subic Bay, cruised off the coast of South Vietnam for 15 months. Did you cruise with him? Did you know each other? He was honorably discharged Oct. 68 after a few months on the USS Alamo in Long Beach. Nixon ordered a reduction in troop strength. We recently learned from a website of ships histories that the Valley Forge was sold for scrap in the early 70's. Have you ever gone to any reunions? Robert hasn't, he gets too emotional about the losses and injuries. I've told him about them when I see the listing in the Legion magazine reunion section. I almost thought I'd get him to one a couple of years ago, but he declined. Well if you want to reply, please do. Even if you didn't know each other, we could still remember the grand old ship. I got to go aboard on a family day once before it left with the fleet. -- It was utterly amazing!-- Also, a little about me...I am currently employed with a county government veterans assistance agency. We help vets with rent, food, utilities, obtaining service-connected compensation, non-service-connected pension and lots of other things they need from the VA. It's something special, I feel honored to be able to help the veterans. It's victorious when we win! There are still way too many vets out there who do not know what they are entitled to. My organization has been in operation for 10 years and we have 18 lateral file cabinet drawers packed full of veterans files who have been helped along the way. That is just one little county in Illinois! Hope to hear from you!
