Frederick Neubauer (Civilian)
Gender: Male
Hometown: Pontiac, Illinois
Military Status: Veteran
About Me:
I think I answered most of that in the last block
I retired from the U.S. Air Force on 1 July 1982. I spent 21 years, 6 months and 11 days on active duty. My best assignment was as Site Commander at OLC, 1945 Comm Gp, located at Heidelberg Army Air Field, just outside of Heidelberg Germany. My job was maintaining what was considered weather equipment, such as runway wind speed and direction equipment, visibility systems, cloud heigth/coverage systems, etc. Was a wonderful career, and even today I guess I miss the association with the military. Since my retirement, I worked civil service, mainly because I could work in the overseas locations and exercise my rights as a retired service-member. I worked for a total of 9 years in Heidelberg Germany at Campbell Barracks. Was a wonderful experience, as I had my passport, my European Drivers license, and a BMW to go where I wanted, when I wanted. Heidelberg was 8 hours from the South of France, Antibes, Cannes, Nice, etc., Italy was also within a days drive, and Amsterdam was 4 hours from Heidelberg, eventhough it was 365 miles.
After returning to the states I worked at the Presidio of San Francisco until its closure in 1993, at which time I went to work for a Brokerage Firm known then as Lombard Brokerage, which was the first On-Line Brokerage firm. After about one year, it was bought out by Morgan-Stanley/Dean Whitter, which when they took over, our monthly bonus's were cut in half. I am just now applying for Social Security, and hopefully will be able to return to Europe on vacation once in a while to see the many places where I have spent my youth.
